What is Chiropractic care?
Chiropractic is a science, art and philosophy that respects the human body's own innate ability to heal. Chiropractors like Dr. Roca believe that the structure of the human body is directly related to its function. Bad posture, subluxations and other distortions of the human frame distort the functions of the human body. A crooked spine cannot work as efficiently or as effectively as a straight spine. Chiropractic care is the correction of spinal subluxations and improvement of the human frame with corrective adjustments.
What is a Subluxation?
A bone or joint in the body that is not aligned properly and interferes with the normal function of the body is a Subluxation. Chiropractors can vary on how to best correct a subluxation but the identification and removal of a subluxation is common to all Chiropractic adjustments.
What is an Adjustment?
The adjustment is the manner in which the Chiropractor corrects or removes the subluxation. This is where the most diversity can be found among Chiropractors. There are many different techniques that can be used but all have the same goal of correcting the subluxation. At IN8 Family Chiropractic Dr. Roca uses range of Chiropractic techniques to serve as many different people as possible from the expecting mother and newborn baby to the greatest of Great Grandmothers and everyone in between. Dr. Roca utilizes the traditional 100+ year old chiropractic techniques as well as new technology that allows him to correct the subluxation using very little force to move the bone or even techniques that use no force at all.
Is Chiropractic right for me?
Chiropractic is a safe and effective alternate approach to healthcare. It is true that Chiropractic care is not for everyone in every situation but if you have been to the medical doctor and not getting the results you desire try Chiropractic. It should be safer than any medicine the MD can prescribe without any of the potential side effects. If you do not like the idea of taking medicines or would like to try and avoid surgery try Chiropractic. The doctor of Chiropractic above all else will not cause you any harm. If you are one of the very few people that cannot get adjusted or benefit from a Chiropractic adjustment they will not adjust you and make sure you get to the proper doctor to get the care you need.
Do kids get adjusted?
Absolutely! Dr. Roca has helped newborn babies after traumatic birth process recover, colicky babies, babies that feed only on one side, or learning to walk and fall down stairs. We have seen little guys after they face plant riding their first skateboard, after going over the handlebars for the first time, or when big brother tackles little sister teaching her to play football. One word, Trampolines.
Kids are tough and they do not need to get adjusted very often. Dr. Roca's approach is very simple, "If they ain't broke, don't try to fix them." That doesn't mean they never get adjusted. A child should never limp, they should never have back pain or experience unexplained pain. Children with these symptoms should all get checked by their Chiropractor.
Here are something to look for that would indicate your kid needs an adjustment.
Babies that only feed on one side or don't like to turn their head in one or both directions or never seem totally comfortable.
Toddles that limp, have sensitive spots that hurt when touched or they hold and rub their their back often.
Preschool age and beyond; these kids should not have back pain. If they complain that their back hurts it is worth finding out why. Same with limping. If they fall and smack their knee sure they might limp for a day or two but an unexplained or a persistent limp, painful or not, should be investigated further. Headaches can occur in kids just like adults but if you notice them being frequent or sever, find out why.

My Chiropractic Story starts as a 6 year old child eager to help my mother with total and complete abandonment of safety and forethought.
The family was working outside in the yard using a various lawn and garden tools when the skies darkened, the wind picked up and rain began to fall. We needed to gather the tools and get them into the barn. The only urgency to accomplishing this task was in my own mind as I quickly ran to pick up tools and tripped on a tree root in the process falling on my face. The corner of my eye first hit the corner of a steel wheelbarrow full of dirt and stone, breaking my face.
That is when the headaches started. Throbbing head crushing migraines that were not only excruciatingly painful but also resulted in blurred vision, sensitivity to light and vomiting. My mother took me everywhere in the next few years. Doctors prescribed drugs that didn’t work. Nothing would prevent the headaches from starting or take them away once they began. Regardless of how small or large the pills they prescribed maybe or what effect they may have had. We tried eyeglasses, special diets and various medications. One doctor told me I was allergic to the sun and should try to avoid it. Another said I was hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) and had me eat high doses of sugar. Nothing seemed to help.
It wasn’t until my early 20’s when I first heard the word, Chiropractic. When a migraine is coming there is an aura. In my case it was this strange feeling of slight nausea with tightness in my neck and shoulders and a slight throbbing pain behind my right eye. I had literally suffered through hundreds if not thousands of migraines that all started this way. Once they had begun nothing had ever taken it away. The only treatment was a cool, quiet, dark room and about 10 hours of extreme pain and vomiting but this day was different. This time I was at a party. When the symptoms started I told my friends that I wasn’t feeling well and should get home soon. That’s when a friend told me about Chiropractic.
I had no idea what Chiropractic or an adjustment was but this party was being hosted by a group of Chiropractic students. The word Chiropractic meant nothing to me but one of the students was seeing patients and graduating in a few months. He told me that a Subluxation could be the cause of my headache. The conversation became complicated with words I did not understand like chiropractic, subluxation and adjustment but it was obvious that the fastest way home was to let this soon to be doctor give me an adjustment.
I got on his table, he looked at me feet and felt my neck. He found this little bump that was tender and said, “There it is.” He gently pushed the bone over, there was a popping sound and then a rush of relaxation started at the top of my head and washed over my entire body. It was gone. Just like that, for the first time in my life the migraine went away.
At that moment I became a Chiropractic patient and advocate. It was shocking to me that this simple approach to health was not well known. How could I have suffered for all those years when this simple solution was never an option? My mother must have spent thousands of dollars on medications and doctor appointments that didn’t help at all. I suffered a mechanical injury, falling on my face, why wouldn’t a mechanical solution be considered by all these doctors? Eventually that frustration led to me becoming a Chiropractor with a real passion to share this safe and simple solution to stop pain and suffering.
Thank you for reading my Chiropractic story.
